同格のthat節を導くground

ブログで引用されていた英文を読んでいて、「このthatは同格のthatとしか読めないんだけど、同格のthatを導ける英単語はかなり少ないし、本当？」と思って調べてみた。

on the ground that 〜　の ground には「根拠・理由」の意味があり、その後の that は同格節を導く that です。直訳すると、「〜するという根拠に基づいて」となり「〜の理由で」という意味を表します。但し、使われることは極めて珍しく法律文や論文くらいです。
The officer was prosecuted on the ground that he had taken a bribe.
「賄賂を受け取ったという理由でその役人は起訴された」

on the ground that〜の言い方で理由を示す場合にしか使わないらしい。そういえば、これ全体で理由を示す接続詞と同等の熟語表現として扱っている受験参考書があったかも。同格thatを導く単語でも、truthあたりの主語や補語になりやすいタイプとは違って、前置詞との組み合わせで副詞節をつくるタイプは熟語みたいに覚えた方が効率よさそう。
